5 tips for the successful home worker

Although working from home has been given a huge spike by the outbreak of the Corona virus, the number of people working from home has been on the rise for years. Thanks to all kinds of technological developments such as email, working from the cloud, video conferencing and portable devices, it is no longer necessary to work from a fixed place in the office.

Research by Harvard Business School shows that there are many advantages to working from home. For employers, it can, for example, boost productivity and reduce costs while employees benefit from the flexibility it offers and the reduction in travel time.

1. Stick to your routine

When you work at the office, your morning routine ensures that the brain prepares for the day. So it is important to keep this in mind when working from home. For example, just drink a cup of coffee, read the newspaper, take a shower and put on appropriate clothes similar to what you would wear when you work at the office.

2. To-do lists and regular breaks ensure the right focus

A simple to-do list can keep you organized, motivated and productive. Don't just think about the long-term goals but also write down smaller goals. In addition, make a schedule, so you're not just working. It is important to take regular breaks so that you can reset mentally. Working at home can also get lonely after a few weeks. Therefore plan more social activities such as a video chat with a colleague or friend, a walk at lunch or participate in your preferred recreational activity. Ensure that your schedule does not only include work related issues.

3. Set up a good workplace

In addition to making good and clear agreements with the employer, the success of working from home largely depends on a well-designed home workspace. Not everyone has access to a home office, but still try to make sure that you find a quiet private place in the house. Also, if possible, make sure that this place is only used for work and not for other activities.

Do you share your house with several family members? Purchase concentration screens and use noise cancelling headphones to minimise distractions. Listening to music has also been shown to improve both productivity and cognitive performance, especially for adults.

4. Use the right technology

In order to work from home effectively, the available technology also plays an important role. Think, for example, of the right internet speed. If the household consists of more than one person, a Game console or Facetime, for example, can have a considerable influence on the internet speed.

If you have a lot of calls (internationally), make use of free phone apps such as Whatsapp and Skype. In addition, there are several video conference applications available with which you can easily meet or brainstorm with your colleagues or keep face-to-face contact with customers.

5. Don't buy a printer if you don't have one at home

Not everyone has a printer at home. And even though we strive to work paperless, it is sometimes necessary to print documents. Do you want to print from your home computer, tablet or even smartphone? KUARIO makes this possible!

Whether your documents are on your computer or in the cloud (Office 365, OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud etc.), you can easily print them and pick them up at a multifunctional printer at, for example, a local supermarket, copy store, parcel pickup point or post office. After you have sent a print job, you can release it yourself via the screen of the multifunction printer and pay directly with the KUARIO app. Quick, easy and safe.
